Violent Night

What’s it about?

Santa is in the middle of delivering presents to a family when thieves break in. Santa uses his former training as a warrior to fight back.

This Christmas-themed dark comedy is a cross between Die Hard and Home Alone, with double the intensity of violence.

The facts

  • Directed by Tommy Wirkola and produced by David Leitch, who also worked on John Wick and Bullet Train
  • English language
  • Runtime: 112 minutes

Why did it get this rating?

Violence

Characters shoot, bash, slash and stab others, often with lots of blood spray, making some scenes quite gory. Some of the violence is a result of hijinks, but the result is still bloody.

Tongue-in-cheek humour and Christmas-themed elements including holiday music keeps the tone light, but also trivialises the violence.

Offensive language

“F**k” is used regularly. This would risk normalising the language for younger viewers.

Sexual references

The film has infrequent references to sex that are likely to go over children’s heads, but which teenagers will understand.
