What’s it about?
The Unforgivable is a US drama adapted from the 2009 UK series Unforgiven. The film begins with Ruth Slater (Sandra Bullock) being released from prison after serving a 20-year sentence for killing a local sheriff. Flashbacks reveal the tragic circumstances in which the sheriff was killed. Ruth attempts to put her past behind her and find her much younger sister (Katie), who was put up for adoption. The sheriff’s sons contemplate revenge.
What to expect
The film deals with themes of family, rehabilitation and revenge within a context that requires a high level of maturity to appropriately understand. The film has scenes with physical violence that are brief but strong and children are likely to find these scenes confronting. The aggressive use of highly-offensive language is also unsuitable for younger viewers. The presence of implied sexual activity and drug use further support a need for a restriction.
