Sad themes

As a small kitten, Garfield is left by his father in a dark, rainy alley, believing he's been abandoned. During his new adventure, Garfield must face these old feelings away from the comforts of home. While watching reassure little children that, despite the sad scene, Garfield's story is about courage and love, and their own parents will always be there for them.

Scary scenes

Many scenes feature violence like falling, punching, and electrocution, but they are softened by the film's comedic and slapstick tone. In one scene, Garfield even snuggles under a blanket infested with spiders.

Coarse language

Garfield is usually quite a rude cat, but in this film, his rudeness is toned down for young children. Mild insults like "loser," "thug," and "worthless" are used.
