Disturbing and upsetting themes
The car crash is largely dealt with off-screen, but it is talked about in news reports and other dialogue.
In the lead-up to the crash there is a lot of focus on Diana and Dodi being hounded by paparazzi wherever they go, putting a strain on their relationship and Diana’s mental health. At one point Diana bites her finger after a press interview goes badly. There are visible marks on her finger.
The following episode focuses on the grief of Diana and Dodi’s loved ones, the global shock at the news, and the ‘stiff upper lip’ way in which the royal family handle Diana’s death.
