Horror

Sound is used throughout the film to create tension. This fits in with the overall dystopian, abandoned feel of the world.

There are a number of scenes that show children in danger. In one scene a child is killed by a creature. The death is quick and not shown on screen.

  • Two young characters fall into a hopper of corn that is being stored. They almost suffocate before being rescued.
  • A young child is stalked by a creature in a corn field.
  • The two young characters are trapped in an abandoned car with creatures trying to get in.

Jump scares are used constantly throughout the film.

Violence

In one scene characters come across a man who is burying a dead body. We briefly see the body and blood is clearly visible. The man is mentally unwell and screams to attract a creature, knowing it will kill him. We see the creature find the old man, and while the killing is not shown we see his body fall to the ground.

A character shoots one of the creatures with a shotgun.

Content that may disturb

The most impactful scene is when a woman is being stalked by creatures while she is in labour. The tension is high and the audience feels the terror and the potential for death with any noise that she makes. There is blood shown when the woman hides in the bathtub to give birth.

A man sacrifices himself for his children by yelling to drawn attention of one of the creatures, he is injured and blood is shown on his shirt. His death is not shown.

Towards the end of the film we see a full view of the creatures, where previously these had been briefly shown to build tension and suspense. The creatures are ugly and vividly realised, with over-sized ears and teethy mouths that would frighten younger viewers.
